SSH and Standard FTP Return Different File Times  -  KB Article #1299

Related Articles --

All things equal and setup correctly in FTP Voyager, when using SSH and standard FTP the same server can return different file dates and times depending on the server software. When this error occurs we see the SSH session returning the date one hour later than the standard FTP session. This appears to be a bug or a configuration option on some SSH servers. To verify this problem perform the following steps:

  • Start FTP Voyager.
  • Press Cancel when the Site Profile Manager appears.
  • Right mouse click in the log pane, then place a check mark next to "Show Raw Listings" by selecting this option.
  • Connect to your server using Standard FTP.
  • Make note of the file dates and times that appear in the log pane.
  • Connect to your server using SSH.
  • Compare the file dates and times to those returned when connected to the server using Standard FTP.
  • If the server has an error, the file dates and times will be different.

NOTE: The file dates and times that appear in the log pane when "Show Raw Listings" is enabled are the exact values returned by the server. FTP Voyager cannot change these values.

WORK AROUND: One possible work around is to change the server's location in your site profile setting. Select the "Advanced" button in the Site Profile Manager, and select the "General" category. Select a time zone in the "Server Location" combo box that is one hour ahead (or behind as the case may be) than your standard FTP session. FTP Voyager should adjust its display accordingly. However, the raw directory listings shown in the log will NOT be affected.

SAMPLE: The following shows two example directory listings, the first with SSH the second with standard FTP.
