Configuring your D-Link router for forwarding ports 21, 990 used by Serv-U is fairly simple if you follow the steps below:

  1. Open your web browser and type in the IP address of the router ( by default)
  2. Enter the username (admin) and password (blank by default), Or enter your specified username and password and then click Ok or Log In.
  3. Click on the Advanced tab at the top and then click Virtual Server on the left side.

  4. Check Enabled to activate entry.
  5. Enter a name for your virtual server entry (ie. Serv-U, FTP).
  6. Next to Private IP, enter the IP address of the computer that is hosting Serv-U on your local network.(Where x.x.x.x = Host IP Address)
  7. Choose Protocol Type - TCP
  8. Enter the port information next to Private Port and Public Port. The private and public ports are usually the same. The public port is the port seen from the WAN side, and the private port is the port being used by Serv-U on the computer within your local network it is installed on. You are going to want to forward port 21, if you plan to use SSL/TLS security then you will also want to forward port 990.
  9. Click Apply and then click Continue.

To forward your PASV port range, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Advanced tab at the top and then click Firewall on the left side.

  2. Click on Enabled and type in a name for the new rule (ie. PASV).
  3. To allow all internet users to be able to access these ports, put an Asterisk(*) in the first box and leave the second box empty.
  4. Select LAN as the Destination and enter the IP address of the computer Serv-U is installed on.
  5. Enter the range of ports that are required to be open for your Pasv port range, we suggest using ports 50,000-50,004.
  6. Select Always for the Schedule.
  7. Click Apply and then click Continue
