By default, FTP Voyager uses the MODE Z command to compress FTP traffic using "zlib", a lossless compression codec that greatly increases effective transfer rates (especially when transferring flat files such as text). However, in some cases compression will not work due to network hardware/software that interferes with the compression/decompression process, producing the error:

426 Data connection closed, error decompressing data stream

There are two resolutions available for this issue. The first is to try disabling any firewalls or deep-packet inspection devices currently installed on the network to test for a device that may be interfering with the decompression process. If the cause cannot be located, the second resolution is to disable compression in the Site Profile Manager | Advanced | Compression menu, as shown below:
