With the iPhone / iPod Touch, users can run into an error when using the HTTPS protocol and a self signed certificate in Serv-U. QuickTime will not work with a self signed certificate. When you try to play a media file on the iPhone / iPod Touch using HTTPS and a self signed certificate in Serv-U, QuickTime shows the error message below:
"This movie could not be played."
If the server is setup to use a signed certificate from a certificate authority such as Thawte, VeriSign, or GeoTrust, it will work without error. When connecting to a server with an invalid certificate, the Safari browser comes up and asks the user whether or not to accept the certificate, claiming it's "invalid".
