FTP Voyager JV fails to load when using "localhost" for an IPv6 listener on port 80.


FTP Voyager JV may fail to load if you enter "http://localhost" in your web browser on the same machine that is running Serv-U. This happens when Serv-U has a listener setup on port 80 for IPv6 and not IPv4.

The latest web browsers are able to resolve "http://localhost" to the correct IP stack (IPv6 or IPv4). Unfortunately, the Java Runtime is not able to do this yet, with their current release of the Java Runtime (JRE 1.6 Update 20).


To solve this particular issue, please follow the workarounds we recommend:
  • Instead of entering "http://localhost" into your web browser, use "http://[::1]".
  • Create an IPv4 listener in Serv-U that listens on port 80 and only the IPv4 loopback IP address (
