The COMB command is a proprietary, non-IETF supported command supported by several FTP servers, including Serv-U. It allows for FTP/FTPS clients to upload multi-part files to increase overall throughput, combining the files when all file parts have been successfully uploaded to the server. It replaces the use of the APPE command for similar functionalty by building it into the server in a supported way.

Successful use of the COMB command relies on several conditions:

  • Read/Delete Permissions To Source Files
  • Write/Append Permissions To Target File
The format of the command is:

COMB "target_pathname" "source1_pathname" "source2_pathname" ["source3_pathname"...]
