Serv-U FTP Server 12.1 Improves Performance Again
July 31, 2012
Today RhinoSoft announced it released Serv-U 12.1, a maintenance update focused on further improving the performance and reliability of its popular FTP server.
(Helenville, Wisconsin) - Today RhinoSoft, a leading secure file transfer vendor, announced a large maintenance release of its popular FTP server software. Serv-U version 12.1 contains nearly one hundred minor features and bug fixes, many of which improve performance and reliability.
Several of the performance improvements speed up FTP, FTPS and web downloads on multi-core systems. Others speed up the administration interface when Serv-U is backed by a database such as SQL Server.
Outside of performance improvements, other top items involve a security update to Serv-U's FIPS 140-2 validated cryptographic libraries, and an important security fix related to remote administration. A new language (Serbian) is now also supported on all interfaces.
"Even though the Serbian market is not very large, the addition of a new language in a maintenance release demonstrates how fast we can move when we're working closely with a partner on localization issues," said RhinoSoft VP Jonathan Lampe.
RhinoSoft typically publishes a major Serv-U release once a year, a maintenance release such as version 12.1 once a quarter, and hotfix releases focusing on bug or security fixes one or two times a month. Over the course of a year Serv-U typically implements about 500 features and bug fixes, making Serv-U one of the most actively developed FTP server software packages today.
The last major version, Serv-U version 12.0, was released on May 8 earlier this year. It added a DMZ Gateway module for managed file transfer deployments and high availability support for clustered deployments. It also added a Platinum edition that included all modules and additional branding and remote iPad administration.
RhinoSoft is the global leader in affordable file transfer, with more than 90,000 business customers, including nine of the Fortune 10, in 90 different countries.
